Over 60 Years of Showing Up.

- Who We Are -

What started with a dream, 33 congregations, and two Wisconsin farms has become one of the Midwest's most beloved Christian camp & retreat communities. Here's the story.

A group of children participating in an outdoor activity or camp, raising their hands while standing on wooden steps in a park-like setting with green trees and grass.

In 1966, Pastor Andrew Hegre and leaders from 33 local congregations dared to envision a gathering place — somewhere people could deepen their faith, experience the beauty of God's creation, and discover community in the hills and hollows of Southwestern Wisconsin.

With persistence, prayer, and a little holy imagination, they pieced together two family farms on the bluffs near the Kickapoo Valley. By the summer of 1969, camp was alive — worship, laughter, campfires, and the beginning of something that has continued for generations.

Today, Sugar Creek has grown to serve thousands every summer through overnight camps, day programs, retreats, and off-site ministries across the region. The land has expanded to 660 acres. The programs have multiplied to 20+. Over 120 member churches together own and operate the Bible camp. The staff has grown from a handful of volunteers to a dedicated year-round team of dedicated professionals. Our mission, however, has never wavered: to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and nurture faith through outdoor ministry and community.

Our Story

Our Mission

At Sugar Creek Bible Camp we proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and nurture faith through outdoor ministry, community, and the beauty of God's creation, welcoming all people from all walks of life.

Mission Statement:

“Where all generations encounter Christ, experience God’s grace, and are empowered by the Holy Spirit to go forth in faith.”

Our Core Values

Every program, every campfire conversation, every activity is rooted in the truth of Scripture. We don't add the faith piece at the end — it's the whole point.

Biblically Grounded

Camp changes lives through relationships — with peers, with staff, and with God. We design every experience around genuine connection.

Community Centered

We welcome campers and retreat guests of every background, financial situation, and life experience. No one is turned away.

Radically Inclusive

We pursue the best possible experience for every person who comes through our gates — because this matters. Here, you belong and make a difference.

Creatively Excellent

The Land

660 acres nestled in the unique “Driftless” region of Southwestern Wisconsin. Deep wooded valleys, bluffs draped in hardwood, prairies teeming with songbirds, creeks that wind through the property. There is a reason people call Sugar Creek a “sacred space” — not because we made it that way, but because God invites us to be good stewards of what was created: “good soil” for the Good News.
