 What We Believe

An outdoor ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Sugar Creek’s ministry focuses on, deepening our relationship with Jesus Christ through summer and year-round camping and retreats for people of all ages and backgrounds.  We believe and confess the triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  We confess that we are all sinners who have been set free from sin’s power by our crucified and risen Lord, Jesus Christ.  Jesus freely offers the gift of eternal life through God’s infinite love as we are justified by grace through faith.  The Holy Spirit leads and empowers us to live an abundant life of faith, and as we live this faith life we learn directly from God’s Word, our ultimate authority in living our Christian faith.

SUGAR CREEK IS A SAFE AND LOVING ENVIRONMENT

At Sugar Creek, we provide a safe place physically, emotionally, and spiritually, to enjoy all the things that God has for us!  You will be completely surrounded by God’s love in a joyful environment where you can discover a true calmness and clarity of purpose that, for a time, blots out our hectic and over-demanding schedules.  Our campers will find a place where their needs are met and where they will mature and grow in their faith.

At Sugar Creek, you will find a place where fun, laughter, and joy are contagious and where you can experience all the activities and experiences we come to expect in God’s creation.  Here horseback riding, swimming, creek stomping, hiking, games, winter fun-days, campfires, quilting, and crafting, blend perfectly with worship and singing.

SUGAR CREEK IS AN EXTENSION OF CONGREGATIONAL MINISTRY 

At Sugar Creek, our goal is to be an extension of your congregation’s ministry.  Whether you are a member congregation or a congregation seeking a place for your members to find that “mountaintop experience,” you will find a welcoming atmosphere at Sugar Creek.  We partner with Pastors to equip congregational members, both youth and adults, to live the Christian life in the richness of the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

SUGAR CREEK IS A PLACE TO LEARN ABOUT STEWARDSHIP OF GOD’S CREATION

At Sugar Creek, you can come to a place where you will stand in absolute awe at the wonder of God’s creation.  The natural wonders of our camp provide a perfect environment for teaching the meaning of being stewards of the earth.  Whether composting leftovers, learning from our summer naturalist, or just exploring and learning about the valley and bluffs, those who come to Sugar Creek will learn to value their environment and take responsibility for this wonderful gift God has entrusted to us.
